The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department has recently discovered that the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) stickers on the back of several photoelectric smoke alarms it has purchased are counterfeit. The more than 18,000 counterfeit smoke detectors were distributed through May 2011 by the fire department to lower income families as part of a fire safety program.
