ST. CHARLES, IL – System Sensor, a Honeywell company (NYSE: HON), unveiled its innovative and improved ExitPoint™ directional sounder, which now includes voice messaging. It is the newest concept in fire safety – the audible exit sign.
Trials using ExitPoint consistently show an improvement of up to 75 percent in evacuation times in smoky conditions and up to 35 percent when smoke is not present. A reduction in evacuation times could mean the difference between life and death for a building occupant caught in a perilous and frightening situation. Once the fire alarm has played its crucial role in alerting people to a potential threat, and occupants have made the decision to exit, they need to know how to quickly locate the nearest exit. This is the important role ExitPoint plays. ExitPoint is now capable of playing a recorded alert message, which instructs the occupants of the action to take as they approach an ExitPoint device, including “stairs up,” “stairs down,” “area of refuge” and “exit here.”
This makes it possible for occupants – even those who have never before heard an ExitPoint device, to react quickly and confidently. ExitPoint has a total of 15 single and combination language choices, including English, English/Spanish, and English/French. In between the voice instructions, ExitPoint’s integral audio amplifier produces a pulsating noise consisting of broadband low, mid and high sounds. The broadband noise makes it possible for those in the building to determine the location of the sound, even if they are unfamiliar with the building or if the exit signs are obscured by smoke. There are four pulse patterns that can be used to create an egress pathway out of a building and to mark perimeter exits.
The ExitPoint PF24V directional sounder, which has an optional disable feature for use in conjunction with a control module or heat sensor, can be used in a wide range of building applications. It is designed to work in open areas, as well as in corridors or on stairs. The directional sounder features a number of field-selectable power settings. Its low profile, compact design is aesthetically pleasing. The ExitPoint directional sounder with voice messaging is listed to UL 464.
